SESSION DESCRIPTION

If your child is starting secondary school next September, they may be invited to attend an assessment interview as part of the admissions process at their chosen school in late 2024/early 2025. Interviewing is often a new experience for students, and it can be hard to make a good first impression in the short amount of time they will be given.

In this action-packed two-hour session, Exam Coach founder (James Davey) will work through our top tips and techniques for preparing for a school interview. Students will leave the session knowing what is expected of them and how to have the best chance of delivering a top performance in their interview.

Session Outline

• Introduction to The Exam Coach.

• Our recommended interview preparation process.

• Some questions to expect and how to be ready for them.

• How to structure your answers.

• A way to remember the key points you want to communicate about yourself.

• Warm up techniques for the day of the interview.

• How to behave in an interview.

• Online and group interview technique.

• Class practice session. The class will practise formulating their own answers to mock questions. We will then analyse the pros and cons of each answer.

Tutor

This course will be delivered by The Exam Coach’s founder, James Davey. All of our tutors have:

• Passed competitive exams such as the 11 Plus.

• Attended a Russell Group University within the last 5–10 years.

• Received training to deliver expertly within our online workshop format.

• Taught our 11 Plus exam preparation curriculum on a regular basis within the last two years.

In every session, two members of staff will always be on hand: the tutor and a technical support assistant. This means sessions always start smoothly and on time with a seamless teaching experience throughout.

Session Resources

A worksheet will be sent out before the start of the session. This can either be printed or viewed digitally. For all workshops, your child will receive:

1. A worksheet to complete in the workshop

2. Class notes to help consolidate learning, including 20+ practice interview questions. These are sent out after 24 hours.
