  • The pass mark for each year is decided after the tests have been marked.

Other Exam information

  • The English and maths exams are marked by computer and age-standardised. All students with an eligible score from those two exams will have their creative writing element assessed and candidates will be ranked accordingly.

How to Apply for 11 Plus (11+) Entry to Reading School?

Applications to sit the entrance exam must be made on the school website over the summer before your child begins Year 6. You can register here.

You must also formally apply for a place at the school before midnight on the 31st of October (when your child is in Year 6) to be considered. You can find out more about applying for secondary schools in your local area here.

Is Reading School part of a Consortium?

Reading School is not part of any consortium of schools and runs its own 11 Plus exam.

Reading School does have a catchment area. However, entry to the school is based firstly on the scores gained in the 11+ tests.

How Does Place Allocation Work?

Where qualifying applications exceed the number of places available, places will be allocated in the following order of priority:

  1. Looked after children with a score up to 5 marks below an eligible score.

  2. Children with Pupil or Service Premium living within the catchment area with a score up to 5 marks below an eligible score.

  3. Up to 15 places for children who have demonstrated aptitude in sport, who live within the catchment area or who have registered for a boarding place.

  4. Children whose permanent home address is within the catchment area.

  5. Children whose permanent home address is not within the catchment area.
