How to Apply for 11 Plus (11+) Entry to Rickmansworth School?

Applications to sit the entrance exam must be made on the school website over the summer before your child begins Year 6. You can register here.

You must also formally apply for a place at the school before midnight on the 31st of October (when your child is in Year 6) to be considered. You can find out more about applying for secondary schools in your local area here.

Rickmansworth School is part of the South West Herts Consortium which consists of Croxley Danes, Parmiter’s School, Queens’ School, Rickmansworth School, St Clement Danes School, Watford Grammar School for Boys and Watford Grammar School for Girls.

Does Rickmansworth School have a catchment area?

Rickmansworth School has a catchment area which gives priority on location and distance from the school. The following postcodes are given priority: WD17, WD18, WD19, WD23, WD24, WD25, WD3, WD4, WD5, HA6 2 and HA6 3.

However, entry to the school is based firstly on the scores achieved in the 11+ tests.

How Does Place Allocation Work?

Where qualifying applications exceed the number of places available, places will be allocated in the following order of priority:

  1. Looked after children and previously looked after children.

  2. 10% of spaces will be allocated to children based on the nearness of their permanent home address to the school.

  3. Applicants who are children of a parent or legal guardian who is a permanent member of the school staff.

  4. Children with a sibling on the School’s roll in Years 7 to 12 and who is reasonably expected to be on the School’s roll when the child starts.

  5. 10% of spaces will be available for applicants with a proven aptitude in music in descending order of merit as determined by the school’s assessment arrangements. 

  6. 25% of spaces will be available by reference to academic ability in descending order of merit as determined by the school’s assessment arrangements.

  7. Nearness of the child’s permanent home address point and the address point of the school.
