School Summary

Adams’ Grammar School was founded in 1656 by William Adams, a wealthy member of the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers (hence its name). It is one of the UK’s top grammar schools with common league table topping exam results. The school is one of only 38 boarding schools in the UK and is among a very small group of selective, state funded, boarding schools. This means that you only pay the fees of boarding if your child attends the schools; all education is free.

Boy’s can choose to either board or attend the day school and girls can join for the sixth form (ages 16-18) only.

Back in 2018 the school changed its name from Adams’ Grammar School (AGS) to Haberdashers’ Adams Grammar School.

Catchment area —  Colchester County High School for Girls does not have a catchment area.

Oversubscription policy — Where qualifying applications for admission exceed the number of places available, places will be allocated in the following order of priority:

  1. Looked After Children or Previously Looked After Children who score 320 or above in the selection test.

  2. Up to 20 places will be allocated to the highest scoring candidates on the Order of Merit List who are eligible for the pupil premium on the date that the 11+ test is taken and who achieve a standardised test score of 320 or above.

  3. Places will then be allocated in descending score order from the Rank Order of Merit List, highest scoring first, until all places are filled.

Where two or more applicants achieve the same rank, preference will first be given to the child eligible for the pupil premium if they have not already been offered a place, followed by the girl living closest to the school by straight line measurement, measured from the school main entrance front doors.

In cases where parents live at different addresses, the home address is that at which the child resides for the greater part of the week.

School Summary

Beths Grammar school was established in 1945 and is an all-boys grammar school in Bexley, South-East London. The school has a sixth form which admits girls as well as boys. It became an academy in 2010.

In 1995 the school was awarded Technology College Status.  In 2005, they were identified as one of the first High Performing Specialist Schools and, in 2006, took on a second specialism in languages.  Following an Outstanding Ofsted grading in 2007, Beths became, in 2008, a National Support School.  In 2009 the school added a third specialism to its portfolio, as a Leadership Partner School.

Languages offered by the school include Mandarin, French, German and Spanish, and the various opportunities that arise include visits to China. In May 2010 they became a ‘Confucius Classroom’ — a hub school for Mandarin Chinese.
