  6. Eligible children of staff in either or both of the following circumstances: Where the member of staff has been employed at the School for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the School is made, and/or the member of staff has been employed to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.

  9. Children who have exceptional medical or social needs** which can only be met at this school supported by evidence as set out by Buckinghamshire County Council.

  11. Where the school can take some, but not all, of the children who qualify under one of these rules, we will give priority by taking account of the next rule (or rules) in the numbered list.

About the School

Address — The Royal Latin School, Chandos Road, Buckingham, Buckinghamshire, MK18 1AX

Type of school — Mixed grammar school

Cost — Free

Pupils in school — 1300+

Places available in year 7 —  180+

Average applicants per place — Unknown but only around 30% of applicants pass the exam.

Catchment area —  The Royal Latin School does have a catchment area.

Enter your postcode into Buckinghamshire Council's catchment area checker here

Oversubscription policy - Candidates will only be considered eligible for admission if they meet the required qualifying score of 121 in the Buckinghamshire Secondary Transfer Test (STT).

Boys who qualify and who have a statement of Special Educational Needs that names the school will be admitted prior to the application of the over-subscription criteria.

Where qualifying applications for admission exceed the number of places available, places will be allocated in the following order of priority:

  1. Children in care: looked after and previously looked after children.

  2. Children living in the catchment area of the school must have been resident at their home address continuously since 31 October in the offer year (the academic year in which offers for places are made).

  3. For the main point of admission: siblings of children in Years 7 to 12 who are on the roll and will be on the roll of the school at the time of the proposed admission. For casual admission after the normal point of entry: siblings of children who are in Years 7-13 at the time of admission.

  4. Children who have exceptional medical or social needs (e.g. registered young carers), which can be met only at this school, supported by written evidence from a doctor, social worker, educational welfare officer or other appropriate person.

  5. Students who qualify for Pupil Premium (on census day of the academic year in which offers for places were made).

  6. Once the above rules have been applied, then any further places will be offered in distance order, using the straight-line distance between the family’s normal home address, from their front door, and the school’s nearest entrance gate, offering the closest first.

  7. Where a school can take some, but not all, of the children who qualify under one of these rules, we will give priority to children by taking account of the next rule (or rules) in the numbered list to decide who has priority for places.
