School Summary

Stratford Girls’ Grammar School (formerly known as Stratford-upon-Avon Grammar School for Girls) was built on the historic β€˜Shottery Manor’ which dates back to the 14th century. It is a fully selective girls-only grammar school and sixth form which became an academy in 2011. 

The school achieved specialist status in languages in 2006 and science in 2007. It was awarded the international school award in 2007 and the Artsmark Silver award in 2008. Stratford Girls’ Grammar School is constantly one of the top twenty state schools in England, and it is recognised as a centre of academic excellence.

  • The CEM Select is an online assessment that tests verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning and numerical reasoning.

  • The online registration form must be filled out before the end of October in Year 6. A non-refundable registration fee of Β£75 is required, along with a copy of the applicant's birth certificate and recent school report.

  • The assessment exams will all be sat in the November of Year 6.

  • Following the exam, applicants will be invited to sit an interview with a senior staff member.

 Where qualifying applications for admission exceed the number of places available, places will be determined as follows:

  1. Looked-After and all previously Looked-After Children who achieve the automatic qualifying score for this school for this particular year of entry or a mark above it, or a mark up to 15 marks below it.

  2. Children who live in the priority areas, who qualify for the Pupil Premium via eligibility for Free School Meals who achieve the automatic qualifying score for this school for this particular year of entry or a mark above it, or a mark up to 15 marks below it. Up to 20 places will be offered in this category.

  3. Children who live in Area 1 – East Warwickshire, who achieve the automatic qualifying score or above for this school, for this particular year of entry. Up to 50 places will be offered in this category.

  4. Children who live in Area 2 – Eastern Priority Circle, who achieve the automatic qualifying score or above for this school, for this particular year of entry.

  5. Children living inside or outside of the priority areas who achieve the automatic qualifying score or above for this school, for this particular year of entry.

  6. Children living inside or outside of the priority areas who score below the automatic qualifying score, but above the minimum score for the waiting list for this school, for this particular year of entry.

Within all criteria, first priority is given to those achieving the highest score in the entrance test.

School Summary

Rugby High School was founded in 1903 and is a girls-only selective grammar school. Boys have been able to join for the sixth form only since 2018. The school's motto is β€œShe sets heights in her heart”. 

Rugby high school has been awarded specialist status in science (2004) and languages (2008). The school became an academy in 2012.

Exam style β€” CAT4.

Exam types:

  • CAT4 (verbal, non-verbal, spatial and quantitative reasoning)

Exam length β€” 72 minutes.

The CAT4 test is composed of 8 short tests assessing the following subsections of the four areas above:

  1. Figure Classification (10 mins)

  2. Figure Matrices (10 mins)

  3. Verbal Classification (8 mins)

  4. Verbal Analogies (8 mins)

  5. Number Analogies (10 mins)

  6. Number Series (8 mins)

  7. Figure Analysis (9 mins)

  8. Figure Recognition (9 mins)

Pass mark β€”  There is no fixed pass mark for the admissions test. On completion of the tests, all candidates receive an age-standardized score.

Other exam information:

  • The online application form must be submitted before sitting the assessment, along with a Β£50 non-refundable application fee.

  • An updated school report will be required as part of the application process.

  • The assessment will be sat on a taster day where the child will be asked to sit a computer-based CAT4 test.

  • After completing the application, parents and candidates will be given a tour of the school with the headteacher.

  • An offer is made based on their assessment mark, their interview performance, and current-school reports.

Pass mark β€” There is no fixed pass mark for the admissions test.

Other exam and entry information

  • The online registration form must be filled out before the closing date alongside a non-refundable registration fee of Β£74.

  • The assessment exams are held in the October of Year 6.

  • The English exam consists of comprehension and writing questions.

  • Taster days are held in September.

  • The Kingsley School will request a confidential reference from the applicant's current school.

  • The applicant will be invited to sit an interview with a senior staff member.

  • Offers will be sent to successful candidates by mid-February, and the acceptance forms must be returned one month after receiving it. The non-refundable mandatory deposit fee of Β£500.

    a. children living in the Eastern Area of Warwickshire who would be eligible for Pupil Premium who achieve the qualifying score or above

    b. children living in the Eastern Area of Warwickshire who achieve the qualifying score or above

  3. The remaining 50% of available places will be allocated to children living in the priority circle (the centre of which is the Rugby Water Tower) who achieve the qualifying score or above using the following method of prioritisation:

    a. Children who would be eligible for Pupil Premium, living in the priority circle (the centre of which is the Rugby Water Tower), who achieve the qualifying score or above.

    b. Children living in the priority circle (the centre of which is the Rugby Water Tower) who achieve the qualifying score or above.

    c. Children living in the priority circle who have been considered by the Committee of Reference and placed on the reserve list.

  4. Other children who meet the qualifying standard for the school.

Ashlawn School (formerly Dunsmore School) is a large, partially selective school. The school is bilateral, meaning it is a state-funded secondary schools that selects a small proportion of their intake by ability. It is currently one of only a few bilateral schools in the UK.

Ashlawn specialises in computing, science and leadership. It has the privilege of being granted status as a National Teaching School and teachers from other schools are able to go and train there.
