  • The second stage consists of an extended English writing task and a standard Maths paper. In this stage the tests will not include verbal reasoning or non-verbal reasoning. These tests are not multiple choice.

  • Candidates record their answers on a separate answer sheet.

  • The scores from all tests are combined to create the overall entrance test score.

Please note that candidates must achieve the minimum qualifying score in the SET (first stage of testing) to be invited back to sit the second stage tests.

Scores will be standardised.

The standardised scores of the four exams will be weighted in the ratio 2:2:3:3, with the first round of exams being weighted as 2 and the second round as 3.

Practice Papers and our recommended approach

As the tests are set by the school, there are not many revision resources available. This is done purposefully to ensure that all candidates have a fair chance in the exam.

The content of the Maths and English tests is based fully on the Key Stage 2 curriculum.
