In the event of oversubscription in any of the above categories, places will be allocated in order of merit based on the score in the Examination. If there are several candidates at the 156th place with equal marks in the order of merit, priority will be given to those girls whose homes are nearest the school.

Upton Hall School was established in 1849 and is an all-girls, Roman Catholic, grammar school in  Wirral, Merseyside. The school became an academy in 2012 and it is both an International School and a training school. 

Upton Hall is a member of the FCJ (Faithful Companions of Jesus) Academy Trust. It is one of the five schools run by the trust across England and Jersey. The Trust was established by the congregation of the Faithful Companions of Jesus to work with schools to ensure that they operate within the teachings, tenets and practices of the Catholic Church in accordance with the ethos reflecting the FCJ charism.

  4. Girls who have a sister attending the school at the time of application with a reasonable expectation that they will be attending at the same time of the start of the new academic year.

  5. Priority may now be given to members of staff employed by the school provided that they have been employed for a minimum of two years and/or are recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skills shortage.

  6. By reference to geographical factors, that is, distance from the home address to Wirral Grammar School for Girls. Distances will be measured from the home to the school gate nearest to the child’s home using the shortest road route unless it is possible to use a footpath which is considered by the school to be a safe walking route.

  2. Boys with a valid medical reason supported by a doctor’s letter. Details must be given on the preference form and will be verified by a medical officer of the Area Health Authority.

  3. Up to 15 places for children at the time of application on Free School Meals who achieve the qualifying score in rank order of distance from the school. Details must be given on the preference form and will be verified.

  4. To those boys with a sibling attending the school at the time of application with a reasonable expectation that they will be attending at the time of the start of the new academic year.

  5. By reference to geographical factors, preference will be given to children with the shortest distance from their home to the school as measured by Wirral Local Authority’s computer mapping system.

Wirral Grammar School for Boys was established in 1931 and is an all-boys grammar school in  Wirral, Merseyside. The school became an academy in 2011 and is situated on a large 9.1 acre site. The school aims to provide a strong academic grounding to its pupils. It also offers a wide range of extracurricular programmes. 

Previous students include former Prime Minister, Harold Wilson, who was the school’s first Head Boy.

Exam length — 2x 60 minute exams.
