  • The pass mark for each year is decided after the tests have been marked.

  • The overall score of the two papers will have a 50:50 weighting.

  • One paper will consist of English comprehension, grammar and vocabulary, creative/extended writing, and verbal reasoning.

How to Apply for 11 Plus (11+) Entry to St Bernards High School?

Applications to sit the entrance exam must be made on the school website over the summer before your child begins Year 6. You can register here.

How Does Place Allocation Work?

Where qualifying applications exceed the number of places available, places will be allocated in the following order of priority:

  1. Up to 30 selective places will be offered to girls who have passed the 11+ Exam Selective Test as administered by the Consortium of Selective Schools in Essex and whose normal place of residence lies within the priority area.

  2. Catholic children in public care or who were previously in public care.

  3. Catholic girls who attend a feeder Catholic primary school, namely: Our Lady of Lourdes, Leighon-Sea; St. Helen’s, Westcliff-on-Sea; Sacred Heart, Southend- on-Sea; St. Teresa’s, Rochford; St. George’s, Shoebury; St. Peter’s, Eastwood; St. John Fisher, Prittlewell; Holy Family, South Benfleet; Our Lady of Ransom, Rayleigh and Our Lady of Canvey, Canvey Island. Other practising Catholic girls whose application is supported by a Certificate of Catholic Practice from their Parish Priest.

  4. Other Catholic girls.

  5. Other looked after and previously looked after girls.

  6. Catechumens and members of an Eastern Christian Church.

  7. Girls of other Christian denominations.

  8. Girls of other faiths whose membership is evidenced by a minister of religion or other religious leader.

  9. Remaining applications.
